Festival 2013 is here!!!

It’s finally festival week, and what a busy week it is too!

Monday saw the Official Opening of the Festival and the launch of the Lucan House Paintings by Maurixio Zanini, Italian Ambassador and his wife Patricia in Kenny’s pub in Lucan.  The Ambassador, the current resident of Lucan House, spoke of his time there and was pleased to open the Festival.  Committee Chairman Joe Byrne welcomed other guests at the launch including  Minister for Children, Frances Fitzgerald, Deputy Mayor Eamon Tuffy together with other TDs and Councillors and other guests. The  Roberts paintings  with other historical exhibits compiled by Joe, will remain on display throughout the week until Friday afternoon.

All entries to the Childrens Art Competition are on display in the windows of the former Carrolls Butchers. There are also photos and memorabilia on display all week in The Spa Hotel, Courtneys and O’Neills.

Tuesday saw the first of three walks of historical Lucan and a Poetry night in Kennys.

Today (Wednesday) sees primary school students asking senior citizens about life in Lucan in the 40s & 50s, and tonight at 8pm in the Presbyterian Church there are discussions and examples of music from Verdi and Wagner.

Tomorrow at 6pm there is a Tea Dance in the Spa Hotel for the young at heart. Admission to this is €8.

Friday is the 25th Anniversary Charity Golf Classic. Friday night is Girls Night, with special offers and entertainment in Kennys, Courtneys and O’Neills from 8pm. Also on Friday Lucan Drama present “Check Please” at the Spa Hotel from 7.30pm. Tickets are €25 and include dinner (ph 6280494 to book).

Thanks to all who supported our recent fundraising quiz at Kenny’s  and to those companies and organisations who sponsored our raffle and team prizes.  These include Abtree Bookstore, Dunnes Stores, Doc Morris Pharmacy Dodsboro, Fresh & Fruity Store, Liffey Valley Vineyards,  Power & Smullen Wine Merchants, Tesco Lucan, Woodies and Toolins Betting Shop.
