Love Letters is a Pulitzer Prize for Drama nominated play by A. R. Gurney first performed in New Haven in 1988.  The play centres on the relationship between Andrew Makepeace and Melissa Gardner solely through their correspondence. The play tells of poignantly, funny friendship and ill-fated romance takes them from second grade through adolescence, maturity, and into middle age. Their words are both hysterical and moving. and as the story unfolds we come to know both of them intimately – from their strict upbringing, through later life political aspirations, love affairs, military service and artistic ambitions.
