Help us choose the films for this year’s Cinemobile

Last year Lucan festival bought cinema back to Lucan for the first time in more than three decades with the visit of Cinemobile to Superquinn Centre. With the success of last year we have invited them back for two days this year Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th of September.

Cinemobile is a large truck which transforms into a 100 seater state of the art cinema, fully heated, air conditioned and with Dolby Surround Sound. Mobile cinemas have been in existence in France for over 20 years. This particular truck was built in France 2001 and Cinemobile has now been touring Ireland since, mobile cinemas also operate in Scotland and Eastern Europe.

On arrival in Lucan when it is parked up, this truck goes through a magical transformation in 45 minutes unfolding to become a fully operational cinema, ready to entertain the resident of Lucan.

We need your help deciding what films we should choose for your entertainment. We will be showing kids movies in the morning last year with one of those shows including a McDonalds meal voucher included in the price. There is a fee for all screenings and booking of all movies is essential, details will follow later.

Preliminary Plans for the Lucan Festival 2011 Announced

Calling local organisations and businesses to get involved!

Preliminary plans for the Lucan Festival 2011, taking place from Monday 19th – Sunday 25th September, 2011, have been announced and this year promises to have something for everyone including a wide variety of activities for the whole community to enjoy. The week-long celebration of everything Lucan will culminate in the Festival Family Day in Lucan Village on Sunday (25th Sept), which last year attracted over 5,000 people.

This year, locals can look forward to the return of the Cinemobile (Ireland’s only 100 seater mobile cinema pictured above) which was a great success last year especially the Ladies night and will be run again this year.

Westside Stage School, Lucan Dramatic Society and Lucan Sarsfields will also make a welcome return as well as, the historic exhibition and historic walks around Lucan. Of course, the bouncy castles, street performers, main stage, market stalls, intercultural food and dance will also be there and much more of the activities people enjoyed last year are yet to be confirmed. Keep your eye on the Festival facebook page and our twitter feed.

For music lovers plans are currently being discussed for a young Battle of Bands to be held in the Griffeen Youth Centre and for the more seasoned rockers we hope to run an event in association with Courtney’s Pub. Lots of local bands and singers will also be making appearances including Morgan La Faye and Lorcan James, in addition to many intercultural performances.  For the first time, a Tea Dance for the “young at heart” will also be held in the Spa Hotel.

“The Festival creates an important link between community and business and its success benefits all. We are delighted with the response so far it shows great community spirit which is what the Festival is about. So if you have a business, are a performer, or involved in an organisation and you wish to be part of this years festival just pick up the phone or email us we would be delighted to have you on board,” commented Tom Dowling, Festival Secretary.

“Most of the activities during the Festival are free so we rely on support from the community to help fund it. This support formed the corner stone of the funding for last year’s Festival and although we have already run a number of fund raising events, we clearly have a long way to go to cover the costs for this year. We are currently contacting all businesses in the locality seeking their support to make the 2011 Lucan Festival the best yet. We would like to thank CPLN Partnership and Dublin South County Council for their continued support towards the over cost of the Festival,” commented Joe Byrne, Festival Chairman.
